February 1st, 2011.
We started the day off with the sounds of freezing rain on our windows while we were still asleep. This was enough to call off schools, so we all slept in. Hours later we woke up to white everywhere!
We could not keep our eyes away from the windows! Hour by hour... inch by inch... the sky didn't let up the entire day. Temperatures were in their teens, and the average winds were 25-35mph... The weather man said there were 40mph gusts...and we were not only in a winter storm warning, but also under a blizzard warning!!!
"Thank you God for shelter, food, heat, and electricity!!!" All in all we had aprox 10" of snow dump outside our house.
I forced the kids outside to capture a few photos of this unbelievable snow. Never have we had a "blizzard" and I wanted a few pics of them in it!
Normally all 3 boys are jumping up and down at the chance
to play in the snow... but we all quickly discovered that temps in the teens, strong winds, and pouring snow...do NOT make for fun snow "playing conditions" So instead of getting all dressed up for the snow, they just kept their pj's on and threw a coat over them for a quick pic or 2.
...and some homemade snow ice-cream from Daddy... He got to have the day off work due to the Blizzard, yeah!!
The boys played soooo great together. They spent the snow day playing legos, watching movies, playing board games, and had a lil' good ol'
boy rough-housin'...
After they fueled up with food, I convinced them to go back outside with me for some one on one photos/torture ... After all... who knows when we will get our next BLIZZARD in Bentonville, right?!
Finally day 2 the snow let up...
Due to crazy bad weather the day before, we did not have school the rest of the week. Sooo, we made the best of it by attempting to build a fort. Well Eston and Mommy built a portion of a fort that later on the brothers joined in on... Dru enjoyed eating snow, and clomping around in it...Caden liked swinging, and then jumping off the swing to land in the snow below.
This snow/blizzard overall was a fun experience that all 5 of us were able to enjoy. No work, or school for anyone. No power outages, everyone healthy, and uninjured... Several days to enjoy this once in a Bentonville lifetime 10" snowfall...
